Note: This guide might be outdated for the latest versions of DC++,
so you might need to adapt the settings to the version of DC++ which you have.
Before you go through this section of the user guide, please ensure that you have already installed DC++.
If you haven't, please refer to the installation guide for more details.
Once you have installed DC++, run it from the Start Menu.
Then follow these instructions to configure DC++ to access RinkSide.

Step 1: Open Settings Window
Once you have downloaded and installed DC++, run it from the Start Menu.
To access the program settings,
- Click on the settings button on the toolbar to access the program settings.

Step 2: General Settings
This will launch the settings window, starting with the General settings.
Enter the following information:
- Enter the nickname you wish to use.
(eg. fslover)
- Enter a description of the files you're sharing.
(eg. Worlds 2003 videos)
- Choose your connection type. If you're unsure, choose 56Kbps.
- Leave this setting as Active and leave the IP and Port blank if you're unsure.
Choose Passive only if you're behind a firewall, or using a router.
Detailed information on active/passive mode is provided in the troubleshooting guide.
Next, we'll setup download settings.

Step 3: Download Settings
- Click on the Downloads tab to proceed with the configuation.
Enter the following information:
- Specify the directory which your downloads will go to.
Note: This must be an existing directory.
If you're unsure, click on Browse to select a directory.
- Specify a directory which unfinished downloads will go to.
Note: This option allows you to manage your downloads by separating them into 2 different folders.
Once a download is completed, it will be moved from this directory to the one specified in [1].
You may choose to leave this blank, meaning that all downloads go to one folder only.
- Specify the maximum number of simultaneous downloads or 0 for an infinite number.
Next, we'll setup sharing settings.

Step 4: Sharing Settings
- Click on the Sharing tab to proceed with the configuation.
Enter the following information:
- Click on Add folder to choose a directory which you wish to share.
(Repeat for every directory you wish to share.)
Note: By default, your download directory (specified in step 3) is not shared,
so please also add your download directory here.
- Specify the maximum number of simultaneous uploads or 0 for an infinite number.
It is recommended that you open at least 2 upload slots.
Next, we'll setup appearance settings.

Step 5: Appearance Settings
- Click on the Appearance tab to proceed with the configuation.
Enter the following information:
- If you wish, customize your colors and fonts.
- Toggle the options to your liking, but it is recommended that you turn them all on.
- Set your default away message.
Next, we'll setup advanced settings.

Step 6: Advanced Settings
- Click on the Advanced tab to proceed with the configuation.
Enter the following information:
- Enter 4096 for Rollback.
- Enter 64 for Write buffer size.
For the rest of the advanced settings, only change them if you're sure of what you're doing.
If not, just leave them as their default values.
Once you're done, click on OK to confirm the settings.

Step 7: Hub Setup
Configuration is now complete.
Please RESTART DC++ for the settings to take effect.
Once DC++ is restarted, you will be connected to RinkSide automatically.
